Topped with dry fruits and saffron, this sweet is made of chenna without any artificial colours or sugar. Now think about this lip smacking dessert with the goodness of ayurvedic herbs. Strange isn’t it, but amazingly a Bengali sweet shop Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick in Kolkata created a one-of-a-kind version of sandesh, injecting immunity-boosting properties in it and named it ‘Immunity Sandesh’.
Necessity is the mother of Invention and so this sandesh proved to be. It is said to have goodness of 15 types of herbs and spices like tulsi (basil), haldi (turmeric), elaichi (cardamom), licorice, jayfal (nutmeg), adrak (ginger), black pepper, saffron (kesar), tej patta (bay leaves) among others. And not only the herbs that are used by the owner of the shop Mullick emphasised that while Himalayan honey is added to make the sweet healthy instead of using sugar or jaggery, it is prepared without any artificial ingredients. The sandesh is sweetened with Himalayan honey as it helps the herbs retain their nutritional value.
Read what the owner of the shop, Sudip Mullick has to say about this innovation. He said, “From a very young age, we have known the usefulness of all these herbs, be it turmeric or kalonji (black cumin) or cardamom or bay leaves. All these spices act as a guard against some disease or the other. We all use it for cooking and I think these herbs might help Bengal to help fight novel coronavirus.”
The owners claim that they contacted various ayurvedic experts and after discussing with them, they came out with this sweet innovation ‘Immunity Sandesh’. The sweets are being sold for Rs 25. Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick said they are currently making around 1000 pieces a day.
