Role Of Color And Smell Of Dish

If we ask you what dish you had today and how it looked???? You may laugh at us…!!! you may answer yeah it looked awesome. It is obvious we look at our food before eating, This is because humans have certain expectations of how food should look.  Now again if we ask although your dish looked awesome but was it tasty??? The answer can be yes or no…!! Do you know our sense of taste is often fooled by our sense of sight? When a food’s color and smell is off or is different than what we expect, our brain tells us that it tastes different too. In fact, our eyes send signals to our brain before our tongue commands its taste buds to taste them.

This can predetermine how we will perceive the taste and flavour of what we’re about to eat. This will happen for cooked food, in fresh foods, such as fruits and vegetables, we rely on the color and smell to determine their level of ripeness and/or freshness. Food items can be identified by their look alone, as such we don’t have to eat a strawberry to know it is a strawberry. If the color and smell of a food product does not match our expectations, we may perceive its taste and flavor differently.
